Well, I can think of one way you could see $2,000 in an instant. You wake up one morning, to read something like:-

"China's central bank confirmed it had purchased 400 tonnes of gold from an undisclosed party today....Russia has been actively increasing its gold reserves and rumours that a large Middle Eastern buyer has been actively purchasing in the LMBA market during the past week..."

For all of the jewellery and investment demand, if the market gets a sniff of a few larger central banks around the world trying to "bullionize" their reserves, you want to make sure you have a good whack in gold and/or gold equities, because it'll be rocket time.
