    Scott, I agree. A well reasoned reply. And in Menzies defence, some his mistakes like wishing to not get involved, could be explained by the era where the idea of another war folly in Europe would have been very understandable after the war to end all wars. The US was isolationist and Chamberlain was also a fan of appeasement. Poland, though, was an ally of our ally Britain. His view of Hitler's Germany after his 1938 visit and post 1936 Olympics is not so understandable and points to his true philosophical positions. I'd say the same forces that influence our view of Liberal Party history were also alive and kicking back then.

    As for Hitler and his type, it hard to attribute much good to them except to say that sometimes good things can come from bad deeds and bad things from good deeds.

    btw, haven't forgotten about that lounge convo but too caught up in elections and the mayhem in the US.
