I think that when a person or persons go to a public house, namely a hotel and engage in a brawl, and as a result the police arrive in order to keep the queens peace, doing their sworn duty and are then set upon by those members of the public involved in the brawl, they deserve to get whatever the police hand to them.
To say "excessive force" was used against brawlers, whilst perhaps a good defense in court, exhibits a lack of empathy for the police in this situation.
I can see every police officer form now on going very slowly to pub brawls in the future, lest they are accused of doing wrong by doing their sworn duty, upholding the peace.
This is a real shame and I feel for the young officer, his family and for each and every good WA police officer.
