My Aussie mother married an American GI who got killed in WW2.
She later married our father but USA still paid her a war pension until the day she died. She had never been to USA even for a holiday.
The USA Government/taxpayer paid her a pension for over 40 years living here with her Aussie family.
She wasn't married long to the GI before he got killed.
