Take this as an example,

If your neighbour 5 doors away has lived beyond his means for years, is lazy, loves credit and nice things etc etc. You on the other hand are conservative and live within your means. You don't much to the bank and have some cash in the bank.

Ok - So how is it then fair that your neighbour is FORCED to sell his house in a FIRE sale because he is in all sorts which means he will have to give his house away at ridiculously low prices which in turn means your house is worth the SAME as his... Fact but fair? I think not.

See the point now? It would prevent this from happening as it's getting worse and worse everyday. I see your point and I agree but overall I think it's a smart move. Sure they may be kicking the can further down the street but they may also find a way around that in the short term.
