This is an interesting inovation, but just like the pay-anywhere function, it isn't a very profitable product since the merchants don't pay a fee and the 0.7% (or whatever transaction margin we make) has to cover:
1. bad debt provisions;
2. bad debt charges;
3. funding costs.
Don't get me wrong, I like these kind of innovations but I'm under no illusion that we'll be seeing profits from these ventures. Profits will likely realise through other means but these features will help in building relationships with customers which is hugely important.
