The merchant wouldn't know - it would be code in the extension itself that searches the checkout options in the code on the page and if it finds Quadpay it simply forces the customer to use the checkout option rather than the extension. This is just a guess by me, but I'd hope they'd put something in there to try and minimize the cannibalization.
