saracen, let me add something to that.

If you can demonstrate dividend stability, you can expect a 10% dividend yeild. Depending on what the cash rate is of course.

I'd buy mak, just before the div ex date if it was going to pay a 10% div? Yes. Esp if the banks are only paying 2,3,4%.

So, that policy, will at least, force the stock sp to match a 10% div yeild.

if your paying out a dividend of 150 million, expect a mc at 1.5 billion.

Dividend paying stocks, are a good way also, bear or no bear, to grap a stock by the collar, and reef it north.

Of course, if you want a higher MC, to protect against t/o action, you pay a higher div. So if they paid a 50% div, then paying 300 million, forces the mc to 3 billion, and makes t/o more difficult.
