The Libs are ideologically cornered into supporting the fossil fuel industry for fear of job losses if the industry is wound back yet are unwilling to look at the potential jobs that could be created if we went hard into renewables, big domestic market and huge export potential too.
A gradual phase out of thermal coal as demand falls would be a smart move, later as renewables can provide the capacity to support steel making we then transition out of metallurgical coal. The health and environmental benefits are there for all to see.
