Sorry Slick, Jello has this one mate, at least in the big picture. I know in day trading the share price is all that matters, but overall the MC is what is important. Over time the share price always gravitates toward a fair value for the company. If the value of the company increases, the share price follows until the MC is fair. If the MC is too high, the share price will fall. Saying that the company value is based on the share price is simply wrong in the big picture. Company's are bought and sold for the value of the company which then calculates to the share price. They don't pick a share price and then work out the value of the company accordingly and make an offer.
