Front page article of today's Sunday Herald Sun in Melbourne about an 18 month old boy with Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP). Truly shocking disease XP, but no mention in the article, that right here in Melbourne is a company with an already FDA, TGA and EMA approved drug which will probably be able to be used to treat XP in the next couple of years as a new indication. Then hopefully not too long after that a paediatric version of the drug may be similarly approved. Major hope for families that medicine may one day in the not too distant future be available to alleviate the suffering caused by this disease. Further to this hoped for success, is that the same drug will then also bring relief to many of the millions of sufferers of skin cancer each year. That's some pretty newsworthy stuff coming out of Clinuvel.
