Pete - to answer your question.......

Due to the arbeiter (worker) laws in Germany, DB employees are not allowed to handle shovels. It is not in their job description.

However, once the person within DB that is responsible for delegating a person to put a tender document together(with very specific guidlines) for the services of a contractor that specialises in sourcing companies that have contacts in the shovel manufacturing industry, things should start moving right along.

Unfortunately (yet somewhat predictably) there will be a hold up, as the relevant authorities have not given permission to dig the hole.

Once the permit to dig has been lodged, there will be further delays, as the size and depth of the hole had not been stipulated in metric measurements.

A taskforce will be assembled to perform the measurement conversion from imperial to metric. This taskforce will go on strike on day 3 as they were not supplied with union approved biscuits during their mandatory morning tea-break.

In the same time, the chinese would have dug the hole, thrown the employees in, filled the hole, and built a skyscraper on top....

    God bless Deutschland....
