Likeliest scenario in 2035 is it :

1 Sydney is now called New Beijing after the neutron bombing of Sydney , Brisbane , Adelaide and Melbourne in 2023 after Australia was provoked and its war ship the Bendigo fired across the bows of a Chinese destroyer in the South China Sea .
The neutron bomb wiped out the urban populations of the above cities , those left behind in rural areas became colonial slaves to China . Australia had no nuclear deterrence capacity , and it was not in the USA's national interest to help Australia
Iron ore continued to be shipped out of Port headland by the now colonial white slaves

2 Australia gets an independent nuclear deterrence capacity (so not an ANZUS alliance scenario ) within 24 months and retains its freedom and an 18Million genocide event by China of Australian population does not occur .

My guess is scenario 1 is likeliest to occur as
1 the anti nuclear movement are too strongly entrenched in the politics of Australia .
2 its similar to both the frog getting boiled and the Moving the deck chairs on the Titanic scenario , as we are comfortable getting a bigger and bigger overseas debt , and will only make small concessions to protect our interests , ie submarines but not nuclear powered and only Harpoon 220kg conventional surface to surface war heads as armament for deterrence in those boats , meanwhile China can nuke Australia 100 times over
