Virotec Secures First ViroSewage™ Contracts
The Directors of Virotec International Ltd (ASX/ AIM: VTI) are pleased to announce
that the Company has secured two commercial contracts for its ViroSewageTM
Technology with municipal councils in Australia (outlined herein) and this represents
the first stage of the commercialisation of the ViroSewageTM Technology.
Executive Chairman, Brian Sheeran explains “We have taken ViroSewageTM from a
concept to the marketplace in less than eighteen months and we consider this
remarkable achievement to be another endorsement of the diversity of the company’s
platform Bauxsol™ Technology which has widespread industry applications”.
Mr Sheeran continues, “Whilst the initial contracts (totaling $AUD168,804) are with
small municipal authorities, they do represent our first step into a global market.
Municipal wastewater treatment must meet the concurrent challenges of providing
affordable sanitation, and meeting the water quality requirements for the protection of
the aquatic environment. Another high priority for the industry is the management,
treatment and disposal of sludges from sewage treatment works. We believe that the
ViroSewageTM Technology is a cost-effective breakthrough that delivers a suite of
beneficial outcomes and overcomes universal challenges.”
In the Australian market, ViroSewageTM is being introduced as follows:
1. The company has confirmed its first ViroSewageTM contract with a NSW
municipal authority, following the successful installation and demonstration of
the technology for over 30 days at the council’s trickling filter Sewage
Treatment Plant (STP) where Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total
Suspended Solids (TSS) are the main problem. The contract, for $AUD11,023
per month, is for an initial term of eight months.
2. The company has entered into a second ViroSewageTM contract with a
municipal authority in Queensland, which is subject to a one-month successful
performance of the system at the trickling filter STP where phosphorous is the
main problem. Subject to the 30-day period, the contract worth $AUD80,620
will be for a 12-month period commencing mid July.
3. A trial of ViroSewageTM has commenced at a capital city municipal authority
where phosphorous and nitrate loadings are a problem at their activated sludge
STP.

4. Several other municipal councils are considering the implementation of the
technology.
In the United Kingdom, where phosphorous is a source problem for many utilities, and
sludge treatment and disposal can amount to 50% of operating costs, a UK water
company has recently completed the first European ViroSewageTM trial at one of its
treatment plants.
The initial commercial demonstration, aimed at phosphorous reduction, achieved
excellent results. Virotec anticipates that the next step will be a more comprehensive
trial aimed at evaluating the wider range of ViroSewageTM benefits including faster
flocculation, improved plant efficiency, cost savings, sludge reduction and odour
control.
The UK wastewater treatment market is extensive and the directors believe that the
ViroSewageTM Technology could have a significant impact.
For all its municipal customers, Virotec integrates its ViroSewageTM reagents into
existing processes, seeking maximum performance outcomes from relatively small
capital outlays. Virotec reagents are easily dispersed and optimum dosage rates for
each facility are determined through laboratory testing and on-site fieldwork.
Brian Sheeran concludes, “ViroSewageTM is an innovative low-cost technology
providing practical solutions for the municipal wastewater treatment industry. Like the
ViroMineTM (environmental remediation) and ViroFlowTM (industrial water) Technologies,
the ViroSewageTM Technology is a robust technology and an integral component of the
diverse Virotec asset base.”
