The Aussie dollar is on an absolute tear. It has erased most of the US dollar gains in price since this time last year. It's ascent will only halt with a reduction in iron ore demand or price. Both very unlikely in the foreseeable future. The Chinese need iron ore, and they need to pay for it in AUD. Fortescue reports its order books as over subscribed, so this rally is far from done. Expect further downward pressure on the Australian gold miners.
The hedge not as big a negative at the moment.
