Depends on one's definition of what constitutes a crook. Retail holders are often tapped for funds when needed but when it comes to providing information are often also the last to know about a VA. That to me is already a flag for prior crooked dealings. Some issues I must admit are outside company control.

As retail holders, we have absolutely no bearing as how a company is run, treated like mushrooms and since we're last in the pecking order we're left out in the cold and penniless when all goes pearshaped. Been there, done that and strangely still in this skewed world of corporate system in an attempt to regain some pennies whilst having a shaky composure.

Individual share trading/holding is one of the riskiest classes of so called investments to be in - we face these risks and bear the brunt of failures and rejoice in successes hoping the latter outweigh the former. All the fun of investing - if we stopped, what else would one do - managed funds, getting 01% interest, be a slave to inflation?? Battling on, after all it's only money (or not). In the end one's health and family is more important.
