Lithium batteries are probably more efficient than PH, and there are about 2 places in Australia where PH can be setup, and PH can only work when there is a massive amount of excess electricity available becuase of the huge size of pumps etc that have to be switched on. At least with batteries they can switch on quickly when there are smaller amounts of excess energy available and store that, and stabilize the grid in micro seconds.
