Kevin Rudd, when he announced the green car fund he said words to the effect that he did not want to be a citizen in a country that "did not make things anymore".

I know that OZL doesn't make things, however I think there is something strategically wrong for the Australian Government to sell of its assets to Chinese Government owned companies. This is not "reds under the beds" mentality but sheer common sense. The economic benefits that OZL could deliver to Australia are far-less lucrative if that company was owned by the Chinese Government.

I have basic opinions about the honourable Wayne Swan but his political timing is immaculate. I am positive that this subtlety would not be lost on the Chinese Government. Just off talks with Chinese officials, Krudd appears outwardly to be a global yardstick with China's relationship with Western governments. To the Chinese it seems that he is promoting global thinking (which involve increased funding from China in to the IMF) and is generally pro-China kind of guy, who is incidentally copping flack from his opposition at home over the Fitzgibbon debacle. He is also copping flack from the media due to that "secret" meeting with Li Changchun, the No. 5 man in China. It makes him seem like he is suffering at home from his political endorsement of China.

From this position he can deny Chinese acquisition of Australian companies, without losing any political cards when discussing trade with China. Genius.

Mining stocks were punished today, because they are now all jittery over the OZL decision from FIRB. So they should be. An analyst on Lateline business tonight said that "The last thing to be tested at Woomera was a water pistol", national security my ass. The signals regiment investigating the minister for defence??? My ass. All manufactured hogswash in order for Krudd to play politcal chess with China.

If I was a gambling man I'd bet that the board at OZL will offer the rest of the company to MM, they will decline. BHP will take OZL for sweeps. Rio deal will fall. BHP goes nuts and acquires half of Australia and Rio and OZL come out red, white and blue instead of just red.

Or another one is OZL is left to fall and die, I lose my money and then BHP merges with Rio.

PS: China is a great place, I learnt to speak mandarin for 13 years (badly!) and I have studied Chinese history, poetry and political theory. I love Chinese culture and heritage. To all the 中国人 don't be put off by this "anti-China" sentiment - its simply politics and those that can't see that don't really matter do they?
