'I do not think you get it. Chinese people have shown that just working harder gets you no where. Think of the hundreds of millions of peasants. What you also need is a free market and where did the Chinese get that? Why, the USA. ALL of the current growth in China has come from the WEST, in particular the good ol' USA. With out access to that market, given to China by the West, China would be still somewhat in a hole.

You cannot have a free market when the Government dictates the terms - which might be to secure their own objectives. The sneaky way China is going about things does not help.'

snuff, without some parts of the West China would not have been in that hole in the first place. It was the two opium wars where some people groups in the west (i.e. not all westerners) plunged China into the hole you referred to. The British, Americans, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, and French just to name a few, each took things they wanted out of China by forcing China to sign unfair treaties.

The way China is going about acquiring resources in the present time is so different from how some of the westerners went about getting resources around the world in the last 2 centuries. China is paying for the resources with their hard earned cash. The other people group sent their navies with guns and cannons got what they wanted without paying.

With regards to your comments about free markets. If you truly believe in free markets then I guess you would also believe the minimum wage policy here in OZ should be scrapped (did you vote for liberals)? Since in a free market the seller (employee) and the buyer (employer) negotiate the price. Also in a truly free market everyone should be welcome i.e. including governments.
