They might, but I doubt it. They are much more likely to ask their colleagues at other sites if they are not seeing anything in the trial. If everyone they speak to says they are not seeing much of an effect then they will quickly come to the conclusion that the treatment is a dud and recruitment falls off a cliff.
The pilot study saw a very dramatic effect, if the doctors weren’t seeing this with their patients they will start to think the treatment is not working. It is exactly at this time that you would call around and check what other doctors are seeing with their patients.
