Yttrium - you gotta read Climate Wars by Gwynne Dyer. He mkes it very clear that any sort of secondary form of combatting climate change (i.e. fighting the symptoms and not the root cause) is a form of moral hazard. This is because you rely on human intervention but once we are no longer around to intervene then it all falls apart. Anyway he discusses seeding the oceans with iron particles and even the one where millions of small reflectors are launched into space between the earth and the sun in order to reduce the amount of solar radiation reaching the earth. There is another idea where sulphur-dioxide is placed in the upper atmosphere (yes, pollution) in order to create more global dimming which counteracts the warming effects of the CO2. But he does clearly point out that these would be drastic last resorts and maay or may not be feasible let alone effective.

Latinum - I totally agree. Using the earth's atmosphere as a sewer is unsustainable.
