The Senate impeachment trial will require evidence to sway sufficient Republican senators.

It will most likely turn out that the evidence of conspiracy to incite insurrection will go very high into the GOP and law enforcement. By the time this gets underway, Trump Chumps may be wishing there was a "rush to impeachment" and no requirement for evidence. Then at least they could forever tell themselves Trump was convicted in the Senate "without evidence".

McConnell has played this strategy perfectly.
