humble - yes, agree, that is my understanding of how it works in Australia, where for low risk people within the 50-75 age group the first line of checking is the FIT and then if that comes back as positive then off for a colonoscopy. For higher risk people colonoscopies every 5 years or so are the first line of checking.

But the article is about what the common practice is in the US, not here. And apparently over there, lots of people use colonoscopies as the first line. In Australia the FIT is distributed for free by the government but maybe that is not the case in the States. Also, no doubt there is a huge industry in the US promoting the use of high-cost colonoscopies, and no-one benefitting from that situation would want to damage the profit stream by promoting a cheaper option like FIT (or ColoSTAT).

And that is why I think there may be a real opening in the States for ColoSTAT when all those who have stayed away from being tested start coming back and when all those in the 45 to 50 age bracket want to be tested. This surge of people wanting to be tested may well overwhelm the colonoscopy industry so that a percentage of the overflow will try out ColoSTAT instead. A foot in the door of a major market.
