Reko Diq contracts awarded

MAJOR contracts for Tethyan Copper's Reko Diq Copper Gold project in Pakistan have been awarded, with the junior also flagging a resource upgrade.

Halcrow Engineering has been appointed as the local consultant on social and environmental matters while Hatch Engineering has been engaged to complete the resource evaluation, mine design and scheduling.

Coffey Engineering has completed the initial water resource scoping study and the initial environmental and social impact assessment report for the H4 project.

Meantime consulting firm Behr Dolbear Australia has been appointed as the independent reviewer of the feasibility study, to ensure a final result acceptable to financiers.

Tethyan said latest drilling at the H4 starter project had indicated the likelihood of a resource extension to the west as well as marginal extensions to the north.

Results from the drilling include intersects of 42 metres grading 1.33% copper from 46 metres, 48m at 1.12% from 44m and 102m at 0.92% copper from 78m.

A full scale drill out of the resource is scheduled to start in six weeks.

Tethyan managing director David Moore said the feasibility study on the H4 project was on track for completion by mid 2005.

The total indicated and inferred resource at the project is 837 million tonnes at 0.65% copper and 0.34 grams per tonne gold, with H4 having an indicated 93.5Mt at 0.7% copper and inferred 14.8Mt at 0.6% copper.

Shares in the company closed unchanged at 42c on the ASX.
