I wish I shared your optimism regarding renewables...
the amount of batteries required to handle base load, even for a day is cost prohibitive.
Also, renewables do not handle changes in load on the network very well.
They also create fluctuations in supply voltages due to their inherent erratic generation methods.
a coal or nuclear plant can vary output based on the demand from the network.
I'd like to say renewable could take over,but I don't see it as feasible for large scale.
on a house, a small solar and battery bank works for off grid, but it will struggle to be scaled up to a full energy network.
