I agree with your sentiment regarding the gold price movement under normal circumstances. Only stating from experience that with extreme bad news events the price tends to react swiftly and significantly. The news regarding the bank stress test results, if true, may be regarded as an extreme bad news event, and in my opinion will be regarded as such.
