Stretched rewards for achieving stretched targets and for putting in beyond human effort is what builds most sports, most businesses and most relationships.
To think that we could get ahead as a society simply by all getting a decent reward for a decent effort is a bit naive in my views.
Your idea would work for 90% of people but for the 10% ( those who create the change and the wealth) it would not work.
