There are tons of articles around Pd and Pt in the Hydrogen economy.. Here is some of the science.. Both play a vital role. One of the HUGE hurdles in the Hydrogen fuel cell is the cost of Pt and the quantity needed per fuel cell.. Two major breakthroughs have been in this area have been reducing the use of Pt per vehicle by making a nanolayer structure and creating a pinhole structure. Both have reduced the needed Pt per vehicle (which is a good thing if you want Pt to be a major catalyst component in vehicles). Companies are trying to replace the Pt-Pd in catalysts with cheaper alternatives so getting the amount of Pt/Pd per vehicle is also good.
