All that article basically says is that as reported on August 12 the UK decided to restrict reporting of death trends from COVID19 to only those who died within 28 days of diagnosis, bringing the UK into line with a large percentage of neighboring reporting methods The UK used to report those who died within 60 days as being death from COVID19.

"The 28-day definition brings the definitions into line with the other UK countries and provides a more accurate, and sensitive measure, of the immediate impact of COVID on deaths. This will allow us to better determine if deaths related to COVID are trending up or down."

I'm guessing "into line with the other UK countries" should be into line with other EU countries based on the data presented. The 60 day measure is still recorded to track other longer term COVID19 issues, just not reported as the UK national figure.

So @BarkingGecko I'm not really sure how it is relevant to US death rates, can you supply more relevant information? Has the US changed how it reports lately?

Perhaps you could give a running commentary on excess deaths over the average rate to give us more accurate figures, deducting any decline in other lethal transmissible disease, e.g. Influenza but adding in any increase in other diseases like maybe heart failure, cancers and the like? If you really think the death rates reported are so wrong.
