As Macca said, this show is based around hypermedia.

It is no accident that many of the talent found on the show are taken up by Cowell's company soon after the show - with decent record contracts. As well as that they do a touring show of Britain's got talent.

It is not diminishing the talent of these people, however many of them, like all reality TV shows, will be a flash in the pan.

That side of it is unfortunate - especially for the young people on the show that may have their whole lives shaped by a show such as this - trying to regain the heights of stardom and public adoration that they received through the machinations of reality TV.

I think a lot of the acts are amazing, and it is very entertaining - but it is (from my cynical/realist standpoint) just another part of the larger media machine for generating corporate dollars - the people on these shows will be chewed up and spat out just as quickly as any nubile 18 year old with an autotune hit.
