My opinion is that without Elon's dogged pursuit of EVs we would still be stuck with now outdated views that were put forth prior to 2016.

The advances he has in a large part enabled have greatly shifted the dynamic between consumer BEVs and FCEVs. Also he is responsible for rocket boosters that can land vertically which is mindblowingly cool.

The VW chart was "well to wheel" with a focus on consumer vehicles. Clearly that was missed by one. Also I claimed it came from VW because well, it did. Here's the link along with a snippet for those without time to read the full article.

There are obviously some applications that are better suited to hydrogen, but based on my research into current alternatives when it comes to consumer EVs, BEVs are the logical choice.

I do not just read research paid for by those with vested interests and when I do I am well aware of the potential motivations. Advancements in range, durability, and production cost of Li-ion cells demonstrated in recent years has cemented my view.

It's worth noting there are also other battery technologies that are useful in certain applications such as Vanadium Redox.
