I think you need to do more research beyond some article from 2016, and have a look at coal mining and oil extraction and the destruction and pollution that causes by comparison, including emissions which are a huge part of the future if we don't get it under control. There are now recycling options for batteries and other related industries like solar, and it is growing. Yes, it isn't all positive, but the alternative is ultimately worse. Regardless of that, it is now almost at snowball effect and will be a huge player in the near term. Not just the ~1% of the market like Tesla is currently.
