Pretty much whatever humans make cause pollution - be that from inception or the end of the product's useful life or even in between the two. It's the level of pollution that may change, but pollution nevertheless. Most modern cars are more fuel efficient now than back in the sixties but burn fuel as they travel and there are millions more on the road now. A car's useful life is measured in a couple of decades and electric cars won't change that - lithium usage is just a part of the story as other elements are used plus plastic. Regardless what sort of recycling processes are put in place there will always be some losses which end up as pollution - wrecking yards are a testament to this and so are our waterways, hills, valleys and our own backyards.
No easy answers, the article simply points out some of the pitfalls of an ever increasing use of a relatively newish technology and if one were to read the full article (from their website) it points to ways of helping to overcome some of those. Since that particular article, there have been further positive developments in battery density and reduction of materials used in their production - that process is still ongoing.
The electrification of transportation is still in infancy - the amount of materials required to replace all ICU vehicles is massive - the amount of residual pollution will also have a huge challenge in being reduced and recycled. Additionally, the replaced vehicles all need to find a 'home' - somewhere - maybe not in your backyard or mine but someone else's.
Obviously SYA's aim is to supply some of those materials required for the massive task of helping to reshape human transport and as investors we're interested in the company's success (as well as perhaps to just making a quick buck). The purpose of the article however feeble, was to simply provide a bit of insight and by no means meant to be exhaustive - let that in depth task to people better qualified or perhaps for others to explore further in case they're interested.![]()
