My father was in Borneo against the Japanese, and in Darwin when it was bombed during ww2. More attention should paid to that, than Galipolli, we weren't under threat from the turkish 10,000 kms away or whatever.
It's sheer craziness, that we get sent to war to sacrifice for our country, so far away, that really had no implications with Australia. It's not as if the turks were going march right across the globe into Australia.
And it's easy enough for a Govt to send troops away, for whatever reason, and when a soldier comes home from war, he is not the same. My father was never over it til the day of his death.
