IMO, we have to have a complete rethink of the role that Government ought to play in Australia's industrial revival. The rot began in the 1980s when Keating floated the AUD and set in place the process of privatisation as was then required by the US Treasury, the Fed & Wall St. Reganomics was already in full swing in the USA by the mid 1980s and ,in retrospect, this gave way to the flight of US manufacturing overseas. It took the Yanks 20 years to realise that their own multinationals had done a hatchet job on good old America and its working class.
From then on Aus has issues with manufacturing of which the Auto manufacturing was the tip of the iceberg. A plethora of FTAs put the final nail in our industrial coffin.
We simply have to learn from others and how they survived industrially from Germany to Japan to Korea and China of which the latter simply done us like a dinner!
I know that many on these threads are Right Wing Ideologues who simply think that China, and specifically the CCP, is evil and rather than study how and why China emerged as the global manufacturing and trading powerhouse of the past 30 years, we seem to be more interested in debunking the CCP and generating chaos in China something like the Middle East. That, IMO, without a proper defensive anti-missile shield can be a dangerous gig!
Can I tell y'all that its not kosher to attempt to interfere in the domestic politics of a foreign country let alone advocate/abet regime change. We are very precious when it comes to foreign influence on our Government and/or our political system so why should we think that China is any more tolerant of our rants?
If we firmly believe that we have the best political/economic system then we should get on with demonstrating that to all and sundry rather than whinging about foreigners & foreign powers stymieing our efforts.
The bottom line for Aus is that if there is a US/China bingle , that China has the capability of knocking out the East Coast of Aus within half an hour and all we have been doing is rubbishing China rather than earning enough loot to provide ourselves with a state of the art missile defensive shield. We simply can't rely on the USA who is running its military on borrowed money to do the job for us.
A piss/fart State like Israel has over 100 Nukes, the means of delivering them at a moments notice and the best missile defence system that money can buy.
We have the world's best natural resources but we have sold Aus short by allowing foreign Multinationals to 'dig it up and ship it out" and telephone the profits overseas leaving us with a 1940s military capabilities. We did bonza in the Middle East fighting a mob of poppy farmers and religious bigots in Lancruiser utes ! Modern China is a different kettle of fish.
