lol, im a plumber and 160k a year is definately not correct, the only way he would be earning that is if he has his own business with maybe a couple people working for him. im not sure about other trades but for those whinging about plumbers heres the facts for NSW, which would go for most of the country.

*average hourly rate ranges from 20-25 an hour, this usually includes a work van/ute with some tools and company phone.

*subcontractors can earn 40-50 an hour, but they supply everything including work ute, tools, insurance, maintenance on the vehicle, paying own super, upkeep of lost or broken tools which can be VERY expensive. this is to only name a few.

to really make big money in plumbing is no easy task, as what some badly misinformed people have said. i know many plumbers i sub contract too, and they easily work 12hours a day including saturday.

the physical labour which goes into all trades is worth every cent which tradesman get, and it is very hard work, day in day out.

the grass is rarely greener on the other side, aswell as id much rather a tradesman when the world ends then a financial analyst :D

i actually hate plumbing that much im studying at the moment to become a stockbroker, which hopefully they start employing again in maybe a couple of years LOL. m 2 c
