Wow,
What an amazing thread...
Me I currently work in IT, back in the eighties, I earnt stupid money, (made 5K a week for a while as a contractor) now I make about 70k a year, I know lads who were earning 500+k, and are now happy to be close to 100k.
Swings and roundabouts, I beleive at the time tradies were earning stuff all.
Strangely enough, unqualified though I am, I have worked as a labourer for chippies and bricklayers, I have literally been up to my waist in humen excreta cleaning blocked pipes, cos most people are squeamish.
I have helped save lives in traumatic accidents cos I have basic nursing skills, and I have broughht people back from the edge of suicide with counselling skills.
I have fixed the cars of desperate people, I have fed the poor and provided them with money to get them on their feet when they had no hope, even though I had hardly any money for myself.
I have run kitchens as a chef and some of my greatest life times were as a poet living out of rubbish bins and selling trinkets at a craft market.
Sooooo... in my opinion, it don't matter what you earn, it is what you do and what you do for others.
personally, I don't generally use tradies, as I can do a lot of what I need for myself... but I do recognise they have a lot more skill than me and the big jobs I will use them for.
I also do not use hospitals unless in dire emergency... have stitched myself up, pulled my own teeth, cleaned my own wounds... but the big jobs, I do use them for.
If you need something, I'll do my damndest to help. If you don't need anything, look after yourself and maybe go help someone who does.
Life is what you make of it... slandering the good fortune of others is just ignorant, as is laughing at their misfortunes.
thanks be to the nurses, the teachers, the tradies, the policemen, the firies, the farmers and the nerds and all those people that make up communities that we would be sad and lonely individuals without.
Ohh and to my chagrin... my hands are soft as a babies at the moment, LOL!
