As to what is off limits. I believe all thinks other than the politician and his act, deeds and very being are off limits. The electorate has the right to know everything about a politician - career history, personal history, married, gay (yes the electorate has a right to know), children, statements made etc etc etc.

Statements are made about what policies and ideas an individual puts forward as being the only thing that matters. That is utter bollocks because once elected politicians make new policies and generate new ideas as well as changing the ones they are elected on. As a result the character, standing and personality of the individual is the only thing the electorate has as a guide to the future and what the indiviual may seek to do once in parliament.
