This is what I got from my online broker today after I contacted them to check. I think it probably best if in doubt, to check with your own broker to be sure you know where you stand.

Please be advised that the application money for the rights you are trading is deducted from your account when you place the buy order, this is the standard procedure when trading rights through Netwealth.

Should you not wish to take up the rights before the application date we can refund the application money to you upon receiving a written request to do so.
