well called blueballs - i had only viewed this site a few times before Dec last year and hadn't posted. However this was about the time ( or even May - June ) that i was nervous and i believe it is incorrect for people to say sub prime hit later because it had been around for way before nov 07.

maybe of more interest is who called the recovery?? assuming we are having it.

closest i got to calling the fall publicly was i wrote a letter to crikey which was published in about 0ct 07 saying rba was crazy to keep putting up interest rates as things would get tough. i sold a lot of stocks in July 07 but i admit to getting sucked back in to a fair extent in early 08 as i missed a fair bit of profit opportunities in the rally to nov 07 - esp in iron ore stocks and base metals.

i will tell you all that i don't short sell and yet i have had a great year. even if i take csg stocks out i have still made reasonable money on the trades. last financial year was helped by minemakers particularly, and this one by qgc pes bow prr bta nod aio and even aax mpo wcl and vpe to some extent.

i guess what i am saying is i believe there is always opportunities on the long side .
