Crypto currency and digital currency are very different. Crypto currencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, etc.... are independent and can be created by anyone. And the technology around it is far more complex than digital currency. Whereas digital currency is created by government and backed by government and it is a lot simpler. In fact, it is nothing more than fiat currency in digital form.

If there is going to be a "fight" between crypto currency and digital currency, I know which one will come out winner. Hence I am going to stay away from crypto currencies and invest in gold. With gold, if a government decides to give a zero value, I can at least get it molded into a toilet bowl i.e. a lot more functional than crypto currency!
