Your 22,000 flu deaths number is incorrect Long term averages were in the low 30,000's. Last few years of published data doubles that number to around 60,000's. I assume that this has a lot to do with a growing population and more folks getting older.
As of this (Sunday) morning the USA is still reporting ONE death from swine flu. Most of the news this morning is focussed on ONE hotel in Hong Kong that has been quarantined. From memory there are about 600 cases of swine flu reported across the globe. No-one is reporting more deaths at this moment.
The U.S. old line media is in severe decline. The NY Times is on the verge of bankruptcy along with a nation wide collection of newspapers/TV stations that are pushing out a lot of media garbage that no-one is buying. IMHO they are pushing this killer flu story to try and drum up some sales and support the Obama agenda to nationalize healthcare in the USA.
