Golden Fleece brings back many memories. 50 plus years ago I owned a Phillips66 fuel distribution business. It all started when Phillips were getting established in Australia and another business I owned that had a vehicle fleet of 20 plus vehicles did a deal for discount fuel. We also organised a discount price for staff and some of our suppliers. We were turning over so much fuel that Phillips established us as an agent. We built a depot and built up quite a business. Golden Fleece were our major competitor. Two years on and Golden Fleece bought out the Australian arm of Phillips. The local rep then allowed the other (original) Golden Fleece distributor "special discounts" to our customers but excluded my own business to push us out. It was so bad that I was still a Golden Fleece agent but using Shell fuel myself at a better price.
Is your moniker related to Golden Fleece Petroleum or the wool side of Australian folk law?.
