If you are replying to my post, I stated Sila Nanotechnologies said nickel will disappear from batteries, "eventually". I didn't give an time frame, in fact I stated to the contrary. The example I provided regarding the miners, was to demonstrate the risks the miners face, "if" demand was disrupted by a new chemistry breakthrough.
Though I will say this, the battery supply chain is complicated due to the various battery metal inputs, therefore, labs are working on eliminating certain metals, due to cost, weight, etc, not the mention the capex required to build and mine all those inputs. Elon would has a vested interest in saying nickel will be needed long term, because nickel will be needed for some time, as stated, but Elon wont give a shite about $$ invested in the nickel mine, if nickel is no longer in required.
Maybe the development of LFP (ion phosphate) batteries improve sufficiently, thus disrupt the high nickel cathodes. While I don't think that will happen any time soon, best to keep a close eye on developments.
