You have to pick the right stock for that to work out. Two years is a long time to wait for a stock that goes nowhere. The buy and hold mentality has also seen a lot of folk ride their stocks all the way down to 10-20% of highs on the false belief that "the fundamentals haven't changed."

You're also failing to take into account the power of compounding. I'll take 5% per week compounded over 2 years rather than 800% any day. I don't trade timeframes that short, but it shows how flawed your "doing it my way is the smartest" argument.

The truth is, there is no "best" method. It's much more important that you match your method with your temperament.
