Let us hope that Aerometrex does not fall into the trap which Nearmap appear to have fallen into in their effort to capture a slice of the North American aerial mapping market. If J Capital the current main shorters of Nearmap can be believed researching of their clients, competitors and mapping users in North America has indicated that Nearmap did not address the American market in the way that it operates. J Capital stated "The way the market is structured (in the US), the aerial image company goes to the county and bids for the right to (take aerial imagery) over a period of time. That way they know what their margin is before they take off." J Capital says that Nearmap have been laying off staff in the US and engaging in accounting practices which improve the appearance of the US operation. It is not unusual for shorters to engage in rhetoric which is designed to create uncertainty about the fortunes of a company's operations but it does bear checking out. If it is correct then AMX engaging staff well versed in the North American market should stand them in good stead to get ahead of Nearmap over there. It might also explain the apparent slow entrance to that market given the way in which the aerial mapping business works over there.
