    Minerjoe,

I haven't visted the mine site yet and I'm wondering if you have seen it. On the topo map its mostly goat country so places for tailings dams and dumps are limited and the mine site is close to the Goulburn river.

The possible option of dumping all waste down the old workings sounds expensive compared to trucking ore to another site which is suitable for tailings dams and waste dumps. Ore will be coming out of an adit/ decline and the shaft and the area around the mine may possibly only be a temporary storage area for this ore. So far all the discussion is assuming that the processing plant is going to be located right next to the mine. It may be more cost effective to place the processing plant at the dump site and I'm sure PHB has looked at it from this angle as well.

MCO have lots of ground in the area and I'm sure they can find a waste area within 10 kms of morning star mine. It may be more cost effective to build the processing plant there because dry ore weighs much less than water logged waste and all the cost involved with pumping it into old mine workings.

My understanding is that all the mined material is relatively non toxic so all they have to construct is some good silt fencing to control erosion.
