This seems to be an extreme weather event i.e it doesn't happen often however when it does it puts stress on everything. It's exactly the kind of event that the scientists have been warning us about are on the increase thanks to mmcc.

" As with Texas, MISO is currently relying almost entirely on coal, gas and nuclear power. If they had been operating with a quarter of the power from wind, as Texas was last week, I suspect that they would have been experiencing the same blackouts as Texas has had. "

Wind supplies about 24% of power in Texas. Less than half of the wind turbines were shut down so that makes it less than 12%.

We now know that gas failed spectacularly. Gas normally supplies 56%. Grids are normally designed to have surplus capacity for those rare extremely hot days in summer where load peaks for a short time. It appears that the Texas grid is incapable of that and it's largely due to the failure of the fossil fuel infrastructure.

" And while frozen wind turbines have contributed to the state's energy crisis, that type of energy has only slightly underperformed against published expectations for winter output. Natural gas, the state's dominant energy source, has provided drastically less energy than expected, according to experts and industry data."Wind was operating almost as well as expected," said Sam Newell, head of the electricity group at the Brattle Group, an energy consulting company that has advised Texas on its power grid."It's an order of magnitude smaller" than problems with natural gas, coal and nuclear energy, he said. So, as usual , when you dig into the facts we find that the cut and paster is posting fake news. rolleyes.png
