The key political point is that the pollies and senior public servants have exempted themselves from the new rules. Surprise surprise.
Before the Budget Senator Fielding was saying that he would introduce a bill to cut the generous benefits for politicians. So it would be logical for him to oppose the new limits until that happens. If the Opposition votes no, only one more vote is needed.
So look out for some political argy-bargy and perhaps a more generous outcome, or at least a more gradual transition to the new limits.
