There were Ukrainian commies collaborating with the communist oppressors, with plenty of food in their bellies, living the high life in Moscow and St Petersburg.

It's amazing how fear and selfishness can drive people to collaborate with, and benefit from, regimes at war against their own people. But it's quite common in history.
